Artistic Initiatives

  • DuBois Orchestra Harvard

    2015-17, Initiator, Artistic Director

During my time at Harvard and reflecting upon experiences of societal challenges, I founded with Karen Cueva, violinist (Juilliard School) and arts administrator and activist (Carnegie Hall, El Sistema USA, The Dream Unfinished) the Du Bois Orchestra Harvard. Named after W.E.B. Du Bois, Harvard’s first Black PhD student and eminent sociologist, the Du Bois Orchestra brings music from globally and historically underrepresented and disenfranchised racial, ethnic and cultural groups in dialogue with the canonic classical symphonic repertoire. During the formative and early years of the orchestra, I had not only the privilege to conduct and present moderated concerts, but to advocate and fight with Karen Cueva for visibility, representation and diversity within the broader Boston community and throughout the institutional layers of an orchestra (from curating, orchestra building over community and pedagogical outreach to various forms of public service through classical music). A highlight in these years was for me building together with Karen Cueva and our team projects for children and young people in cooperation with Opportunity Music Project, Harvard School of Education, as well Massachusetts Department of Youth Services.

  • Forma Leipzig e.V.

2009- , Initiator, former Board President, Artistic Advisor

In 2009 I convinced a small group of composers to build a platform in Leipzig to both promote contemporary music and foster the dialogue between New Music and Contemporary Literature. Since leaving Leipzig I support the team (lead by composer Stefan Beyer and writer Anja Kampmann) as artistic advisor.

Nowadays Forma Leipzig e.V. is an eminent pillar of Contemporary Music and Literature in Leipzig.

  • Kandinsky Orchester Petersburg

    2018-20, Music Director, Founder

Together with other professional musicians I founded an orchestra in Saint Petersburg. Through our programs and concerts we were seeking dialogues between classical and contemporary music, between Russia and the West, between the disciplines (classical music met contemporary dance and choreography), we were seeking dialogue between people and cultures. It does not exist any longer.
